# Sheprd > Sheprd is an independent native Rust/GPUI workspace for coding agents on macOS, Linux and Windows. It brings terminals, worktrees, agent status, issue dispatch, fan-out, code review, checkpoints, browser annotations and remote machines into one app. Website: https://sheprd.org. Repository: https://github.com/sheprd-labs/sheprd. Releases include upstream herdr-core for local terminals. Sheprd can also attach to an existing Herdr daemon and starts an installed `herdr server` when needed. It does not replace or upgrade a personal daemon or automatically move existing Herdr sessions to herdr-core. Closing the app leaves daemon sessions running. Herdr / Herdr Code is a separate project with its own app; Sheprd is not affiliated with, endorsed by or supported by it. Platform support varies by feature: embedded browser/VS Code tabs and page annotations are available on macOS and Windows; Linux opens pages in the system browser. Teleport, fan-out and dispatch are offered on macOS and Linux with supported hosts, not custom socket, WSL or development sessions. See the feature documentation for supported agents and host types. Native ACP chat is on by default, and `[features] acp_chats = false` turns it off. Cloud integrations are unavailable on Windows, and some providers are experimental; check the provider documentation before choosing one. WSL devices are Windows-only. Code review currently reads local daemon checkouts. ## Install the latest stable release - macOS 14.2 or newer, Apple Silicon or Intel: `brew install sheprd-labs/tap/sheprd`, then `open -a Sheprd`. The app is signed and notarized. Homebrew installations update through Homebrew. - Linux x86_64 or ARM64, APT/DNF/pacman, glibc 2.39 or newer: `curl -fsSL https://sheprd.org/install.sh | sh`. The script verifies the release package's published SHA-256 and installs with sudo (or as root). Run `sheprd` or open Sheprd from the applications menu. The package name remains `herdr-gpui`, with a real `/usr/bin/herdr-gpui` compatibility entrypoint. Read the script: https://sheprd.org/install.sh. - Linux with Nix: `nix run github:sheprd-labs/sheprd`. - Windows x86_64 or ARM64, PowerShell: `irm https://sheprd.org/install.ps1 | iex`. Installs `sheprd.exe`, `sheprd-launcher.exe` and companion helpers for the current user, adds the installation directory to PATH and creates a Sheprd Start menu shortcut. The directory remains `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Herdr UI` for existing installs; `herdr-gpui.exe` and `herdr-gpui-launcher.exe` remain compatibility aliases. Both `sheprd://` and `herdr-gpui://` links open the app. Quit the app before updating; the script gracefully stops installed automation processes and refuses to replace other running installed helpers. It does not stop terminal daemons or change settings/services. Read the script: https://sheprd.org/install.ps1. - Source: `git clone https://github.com/sheprd-labs/sheprd.git && cd sheprd && just install`. See the README for platform build dependencies. Do not use `cargo install sheprd`: it is not published on crates.io. Manual downloads: https://github.com/sheprd-labs/sheprd/releases/latest. Assets use `Sheprd-VERSION-TARGET` with macOS `.dmg`, Linux `.tar.gz`, `.deb`, `.rpm`, `.pkg.tar.zst`, and Windows `.zip` or `-setup.exe` suffixes. Releases include SHA-256 checksums. Signed Windows installations can update through Check for Updates using the signed installer; unsigned copies require running the installation command or a newer installer again. Companion binaries use `sheprd-acp`, `sheprd-automate`, `sheprd-nearby`, and `sheprd-remote-control`. The bundled upstream terminal daemon keeps its `herdr-core` name. Stable configuration locations, environment keys and platform application identities are retained for compatibility. ## Documentation - [README](https://github.com/sheprd-labs/sheprd#readme): installation and platform notes - [App scope and configuration](https://github.com/sheprd-labs/sheprd/blob/main/crates/sheprd-gpui/README.md): features, shortcuts, devices and WSL - [App updates](https://github.com/sheprd-labs/sheprd/blob/main/docs/updating.md): update behavior by install method - [Command line](https://github.com/sheprd-labs/sheprd/blob/main/docs/cli.md): control the running app with `sheprd` - [Releases](https://github.com/sheprd-labs/sheprd/releases): stable and beta releases - [Issues](https://github.com/sheprd-labs/sheprd/issues): Sheprd bug reports - [Herdr](https://herdr.dev/): separate upstream project
